The planning of the Welcome Way started in 2015 as a collaboration between the three ‘Walkers are Welcome communities Baildon, Burley-in-Wharfedale and Otley. Bingley joined the project at a later stage when an extra 9 miles was added to the original route. The entire project has incorporated many sections of previously published self-guided walks resulting in this spectacular long-distance circular walk.
The Welcome Way takes you through stunning moorland landscapes, alongside rivers and reservoirs, across farmland, through woodland and local communities, affording you an unforgettable experience of an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The route is described in detail in 15 short sections. each set out across two facing pages. On the left page is a highly detailed route description in numbered paragraphs and on the right an Ordnance Survey 1:25000 scale full colour map with the route clearly highlighted by a corridor of two red lines bounding the OS green path line, but not obscuring it. The text paragraph numbers are referenced on the maps. The book also contains introductory notes on each of the three Walkers are Welcome towns and numerous attractive colour photographs.
